A group of 151 Ghanaian migrants, including 140 men, 5 women, and 6 children, voluntarily returned from Libya on a charter flight.
The return was facilitated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in collaboration with several Ghanaian agencies.
In a social media post on Friday, the IOM praised the Ghana Health Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Police Service, National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) for their joint efforts in welcoming the returnees.
The post emphasized the commitment to the sustainable reintegration of the migrants into their communities.
“Together with our partners, we will ensure the sustainable reintegration of these returnees into their communities,” the IOM stated. “This support is made possible thanks to the Migrant Protection, Return, and Reintegration Programme for Sub-Saharan Africa (MPRR-SSA) funded by the European Union.”
The MPRR-SSA program aims to assist migrants in their safe return and reintegration, providing support such as healthcare, housing, and job training to facilitate their transition back into Ghanaian society.
Heritage Times HT notes that this initiative gives emphasis to the importance of international cooperation and funding in addressing migration challenges and supporting vulnerable populations.
