A teenage Nigerian student has been arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja for alleged attempt to export 7.2 kilogrammes of methamphetamine concealed inside crayfish to Europe.
Benjamin Nnamani Daberechi, 19 an undergraduate student in Europe was arrested by the operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)
He was arrested last Wednesday during an outward clearance of passengers on Turkish Airlines flight TK 0624.
Upon interrogation, Daberechi claimed he was a student on his way to Cyprus for studies. A thorough search of his luggage however indicated that he was in possession of 7.2kg of whitish substance neatly concealed inside a sack of crayfish.
A field test of the substance, however, proved positive to methamphetamine, the agency said in a statement.
Methamphetamine (meth) is a synthetic stimulant that is addictive and can cause considerable health adversities that can sometimes result in death.
Meth can be smoked, snorted, injected, or taken orally and is often used with other substances.
Also arrested was a Lagos-based female lawyer, Ebikpolade Helen, who NDLEA says specialises in production and distribution of skuchies, a mixture of cannabis, opioids and blackcurrant.
She was arrested during a follow-up operation in Awka, Anambra State, following an earlier seizure of 5kg Cannabis and 12 bottles of prepared skuchies in her apartment at Lekki, Lagos.
