The Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball team (NWBF) will as from Friday May 12, face hosts Ghana, Gambia and Senegal in the 2023 International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) African Para Games qualifier scheduled for Accra.
To this end, the Nigerian men team will depart Lagos on Thursday in a competition meant to climax on May 14.
This was disclosed to Heritage Times HT by the federation.
The delegation, according to the federation, comprises eight players and four officials, led by its Secretary General, Aliyu Mohammed.
The players are Mohammed Muritala, Bailey Segun, Akinde Oluwaseun, Emmanuel Adetayo, Ajibade Kayode, Ridwan Abubakar, Ojeleye Sefiu and Taiwo Durowoju, while the officials include Olayinka Sofolahan (coach), Oluwakemi Adetinde (coach) and Opeyemi Ogunleye (Referee).
Reacting, NWBF Secretary General, Aliyu, said participating in the tournament would afford the players to compete and possibly qualify for the main event.
Mohammed said that if not for the gesture, the country’s contingent might have not made the tournament.
The Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball women’s team has secured an automatic qualification.
