The Nigerian team at the just concluded 2023 U20 Africa Cup of Nations held in Egypt has received a fair play award, after finishing as the third-best side.
Thereafter, Ambassador of Nigeria to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Ambassador Nura Abba Rimi, hosted and honoured them.
Ambassador Rimi received the entourage of the Nigeria U20 boys at the town hall of the Nigeria Embassy in Cairo, Egypt on Saturday.
At the event, the diplomat expressed satisfaction with the performance of the team during the tournament while congratulating players and officials for successfully qualifying for the forthcoming FIFA U20 World Cup finals in Indonesia.
Rimi further charged the Flying Eagles to make Nigeria proud in the global tournament slated for May 20 to June 11, 2023.
A total of 21 players and 10 officials of the Flying Eagles received a plaque of honour from the diplomat, for representing the nation creditably in Egypt.
Senegal after winning the tournament, had their players win all individual awards.
Gambia went home, as the runners-up after yielding to a 0-2 defeat to the Senegalese in the final.
Four teams – Senegal, Gambia, Nigeria and Tunisia; will represent Africa at the upcoming World Youth Championship.
