Egypt and Algeria are currently reconsidering their decisions after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced a 75% increase in total prize money for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals, set to take place in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
In response, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has called for an emergency meeting.
Egypt was among the 15 nations that initially withdrew from the competition, citing scheduling conflicts.
However, following CAF President Patrice Motsepe’s announcement on Tuesday, which raised the tournament winner’s cash prize to $3.5 million, Algeria is also re-evaluating its stance and has scheduled an emergency meeting to reconsider its participation.
Reports indicate that the EFA is exploring the possibility of fielding its U23 team in the tournament.
Should both Algeria and Egypt decide to rejoin, the number of participating teams would increase to 21.
