Jose Mourinho got off to a fine start at AS Roma, following an emphatic 10-0 victory over Serie D’s Montecatini on Thursday.
The 57-year-old who returned to Italy for a second spell to revive his managerial career – led the Rome-based outfit to their first pre-season friendly win under his watch.
Borja Mayoral scored a hat trick, while strikes from Carles Perez, Gianluca Mancini, Riccardo Calafiori, Nicolo Zaniolo, Nicola Zalewski, Amadou Diawara and a Santi own goal completed the rout.
After the match, Montecatini posted on Facebook: “We leave Rome and Trigoria at the end of a wonderful and unforgettable day for which we thank the AS Roma for the hospitality.”
During his first spell in the Serie A, Mourinho led Inter Milan to a historic Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League Treble in 2010.
The Portuguese tactician is the first managerial appointment at AS Roma under the new ownership of the Friedkin family from the United States.
Mourinho joined Roma after being sacked by Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur in 2021 following a dismal 2020/21 campaign.
In his first news conference as Roma boss, Mourinho – who was also shown the exit door in Manchester United, rejected claims that his spells at United and Spurs had been a “disaster.”
Mourinho will be hoping to see his side continue with their impressive form when they face Serie B side Ternana on Sunday.
