Nigeria’s men Basketball team, D’Tigers jumped 18 places to rank fourth in the latest FIBA power ranking released on Friday.
The rankings, which is different from the FIBA World Ranking presented by Nike, is based on the recent performances of the teams.
It is determined by dividing the sum of all the win points, tie points, schedule points and bonus points by the number of games played.
Last weekend, D’Tigers against all odds, defeated United States and Argentina by a wide margin in pre-Olympic exhibition contests in Las Vegas. They would later lose to Australia – putting an end to a remarkable run.
The power rankings published on FIBA’s official website is the highest in the country’s history and D’Tigers will hope to improve on the current position when Olympic games commence later in the month.
The Nigerian side will battle the highest ranked team, Australia in July 25 for their group B opener, before taking on Italy and Germany.
All the 12 teams that will participate in men’s basketball at this year’s Olympics feature in the power rankings.
