Thomas Frank, Coach of newly-promoted English Premier League club, Brentford has termed the signing of Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka as a strong one for his squad.
Onyenka joined the Bees from Danish side FC Midtjylland on a five-year contract ahead of the new season.
“I am looking forward to getting Frank in the building. We think he is a strong addition to the squad, and we are looking forward to working with him. He is a very dynamic player,” Brentford manager told the club’s official website.
“Frank plays as an eight in our system; he is very good at getting from box to box and will be valuable to us when we don’t have the ball. He has come from the Danish league and was one of the best midfield players in that league; we think he has the potential to develop further.
“All the coaches here are looking forward to working with Frank and pushing him to a higher level,” he added.
The 23-year-old arrived in Denmark as an 18-year-old from FC Ebedei, a Nigerian club with links to FCM. He then progressed to the first team and made his breakthrough in the 2017-18 season.
He was part of the FCM side that won the Superliga in 2017-18, playing 15 games. He also helped them win the title again in 2019/20 and the Danish Cup in 2019 and qualified for the Uefa Champions League.
During his two-year spell, Onyenka made 95 appearances and scored 14 goals for the Danish side.
Onyeka’s move to Brentford, will see the Nigerian international open a new chapter in his career, as he hopes to help his new club remain in the top-flight.
Brentford gained promotion via the playoffs at the end of the 2020–21 Championship season after beating Swansea 2-0 on the final day.
