Super Eagles Head Coach, Gernot Rohr has revealed his intention ahead of the 2021 African Cup of Nations group D opener against Mohammed Salah’s led Egyptian attack, while describing the group which Nigeria belongs as a tough one.
The three-time AFCON champions have been drawn in the same group as the Pharaohs, Sudan and Guinea Bissau for the 33rd edition of the biennial competition billed for Cameroon from January 9 to February 6.
Reacting to the Tuesday night draw, Rohr insisted in an interview with ESPN that the group is a difficult one, as he cited the Liverpool danger man as a big threat, but claimed his team is ready to curtail his firing power.
“It is a big challenge to play against Egypt in the first game and a player like Mohamed Salah.
“It is a big challenge for all our defense and also for all our team.
“We will defend collectively against him of course, and we are growing together since a few years now and I believe our defence can be efficient against such a fantastic player.
“We have a tough group. Egypt, everybody knows and everybody wanted to avoid. But they are with us, it is okay.
“Sudan also, They have a French coach, a friend of mine, who did a good job since he arrived there, coming out from a difficult group. Also Guinea Bissau is not easy.
“We will be very, very well prepared. We need to be ready for this first match against Egypt in Garoua,” he said.
