Liverpool and Chelsea shared the spoils at Anfield, as Mohammed Salah’s penalty just before half-time cancelled out a Kai Havertz header to put the game at 1-1.
It was a keenly contested encounter between two Premier League heavyweights, as both sets of players were spurred by a boisterous crowd, but a draw was a fair result in the end.
Chelsea dominated the first half and deserved their lead on 22 minutes, when Havertz looped a header up and over Allisson.
They looked in control of the tie until Reece James was adjudged to have handled the ball on the line and in doing so, prevented a Sadio Mane goal.
Referee Anthony Taylor had little choice but to show the England international a red card.
Despite playing with a man down, Chelsea held out for the entire second-half to frustrate Liverpool who were desperately searching for a winning goal.
