When it comes to relationships, everyone has qualities they look out for before settling down with someone.
For some, physical appearance (Height, Complexion, Body Size), tops the chart, but over time it had been proven that these qualities alone are not what makes great relationships.
That said, there are certain things to look out for in a potential suitor which suggests you may have found a keeper.
1. He is straightforward
He isn’t afraid to tell you “how it is”, and at first, this is a hard quality to come to terms with.
A straightforward and honest man wants to really know what’s wrong because he wants to help. Unfortunately with this comes “tough love”, because you are going to hear things that you really don’t want to hear. But, in the long run its best to hear it head-on and deal with it
2. He makes you laugh
Finding someone you can have a laugh with is crucial – even if everyone else thinks he is not funny, as long as he make you laugh, that’s all that matters.
3. He is compassionate
One of the most powerful emotions is empathy, or the ability to comprehend and embrace someone else’s trials or jubilation. A man who can understand your sorrow but also take joy in your joy is beautiful. He always tries to put himself in other people’s shoes so he can see the world as it is, and do his best to move forth in a positive manner.
4. He’s willing to put the work in
A study from the University of Texas found that the most successful relationships weren’t down to compatibility, but rather making the relationship work.
He is willing to do what it takes to make the relationship work or he would rather just excuse it.
So if you or your partner is always looking for the next best thing rather than committing to make your relationship work, it may not end well.
5. He supports your career and celebrates your achievements
A study showed that husbands were a deciding factor in two-thirds of women’s decisions to quit their jobs, often because they thought it was their duty to bring up their children.
It is important you are with someone who supports your dreams and makes effort to see you become all that you can be.
No matter how little or great, he celebrates all of your achievements, he isn’t threatened by your success.
Of course, if your partner doesn’t have all the above qualities, that doesn’t mean you should necessarily dump him immediately – but if he does tick all these boxes, he could be one to hold on to.
