At least 42,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have been displaced by Israeli air attacks on the coastal territory, the United Nations says.
A spokesperson for the UN said on Monday that the displaced persons have now sought shelter in 50 schools run by the organization’s Palestinian Relief and Works Agency in the Gaza Strip.
According to the UN, more than 2,500 people have been left homeless after their homes were destroyed by the strikes.
Meanwhile, Israel says it is only targeting militant positions, but some of those caught in the crossfire, were in the middle of highly crowded residential areas.
Israel says its military is doing everything it can to avoid civilian casualties.
The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that tensions have been running high in the Sheikh Jarrah area in occupied East Jerusalem over the past month as Israeli settlers swarmed in following a court order for the eviction of Palestinian families in the area.
