The Senate on Wednesday screened President Muhammadu Buhari’s 40-year-old nominee for the office of the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa.
The Heritage Times presents five things the now-confirmed EFCC boss said during his screening:
1. Qualifications
During his screening excersise before the Nigerian senate, Bawa stated that he holds a Bachelors degree and a maters degree from the Usmanu Danfodiyo university, sokoto.
He also stated that he is a certified Anti-money laundering specialist. What’s more, Bawa noted that he has been trained by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and by the National crime agency of the United Kingdom.
2. Championing Youth Inclusiveness
Bawa in his opening speech promised to be a good representation of young Nigerians in the country, an act which he said will pave way for more responsibilities to be given to young Nigerians.
3. No Tint on Track Record
The newly confirmed EFCC boss user the occasion of his screening to clear the air on allegations that
he was once arrested by the immediate boss of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu. According to him: “I have a cordial relationship with former acting chairman, Magu. I was never arrested nor detained by him”.
5. Taking EFCC Digital
Speaking on his plans for repositioning EFCC, Bawa said the agency plans on digitalizing every process on everything that they do.
5. Promise of Exemplary Leadership
The EFCC boss also promised to lead the agency differently, stressing that he has a track record of leading by example.
Bawa was later confirmed by the senate as the new chairman of EFCC.
