The Federal Government has re-opened the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos which was partially shut for up to seven months for repair.
Reopening the bridge on Saturday, Director of Engineering, Bridges and Designs, Federal Ministry of Work and Housing, Engr. Emmanuel Adeoye, said having undergone a lot of rehabilitation work, the bridge has been fixed for public use.
Adeoye explained that the partial shutdown of the bridge afforded the contractors the opportunity to change a lot of expansion joints and bearings.
“The bridge is fixed for use now and that’s why we are opening it for use.The bridge is durable. We have gone through it.
“We have Bridge’s Maintenance Unit that carries out checks on bridges,” the director said.
Shortly after the opening, Adeoye disclosed that works would continue on the sub-structure of the bridge much later, but would not affect the traffic.
The 11.8km bridge is the longest of the three bridges connecting Lagos Island to the Mainland. It starts from Oworonshoki, which is linked to the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, and ends at the Adeniji Adele Interchange on the Lagos Island.
