The Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT Chairman, Danladi Umar, has been in the news, after a video of him physically assaulting a security man in Abuja went viral.
Here are 7 things to note about the Legal Practitioner:
Ø Danladi Umar is the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT). He was appointed at age 36 to the CCT as Acting Chairman, and went on to become the youngest chairman of the CCT four years later on July 11, 2011 at the age of 40.
Ø Danladi is a Jurist; someone in advanced knowledge of the law, someone who analyses and comments on law. This person is usually a specialist legal scholar.
Ø He was born on August 19, 1971 and hails from Bauchi state, North central Nigeria. He was Chief Magistrate in Bauchi State.
Ø The CCT boss began legal practice at the Chambers of Ayinde Sani and Co, Ibrahim Umar and Co and Kanu Agabi and Associates. He later joined the Federal Civil Service as Senior Legal Officer, Nigerian Federal Ministry of Justice. He held appointment as Assistant Legal Adviser in the Federal Capital Territory and Culture and Tourism
Ø On September 18, 2015, Danladi Umar made legal history in Nigeria by becoming the first judge in the country to issue an arrest warrant against a sitting Senate President of Nigeria, Bukola Saraki. On November 16, 2015, Danladi Umar had issued warrants for the arraignment of six former state governors for falsifying their properties and personal wealth in their asset’s declaration forms, an offence under Nigerian laws.
Ø On Friday June 28, 2013, Danladi was attacked on his way to Bauchi for an official assignment by armed gunmen on the Keffi-Gitata Road in Nasarawa State.
Ø On March 30, 2021, Danladi Umar assaulted a security guard in Abuja for “being rude” to him.
