Another African country Morocco, are now out of the ongoing 2023 Women’s World Cup after losing 0-4 to France in the last 16.
With the victory, France, one of the existing favourites in the tournament have made it to four consecutive quarter-finals in the competition.
On the other hand, Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses were the last African team to exit the tournament, after Nigeria and South Africa were eliminated in the round of 16, while Zambia crashed out in the group stage.
France Higher Heights
France went into the halftime break 3-0 up thanks to goals from Kadidiatou Diani (15 mins), Kenza Dali (20 mins) and Eugenie Le Sommer (23 mins).
With 20 minutes left, Sommer got her second to make it 4-0.
France, coached by Herve Renard, stand 67 places above Morocco in FIFA’s world rankings and their superior quality was evident against the Arab nation.
The French team’s best result at a World Cup finals is fourth in 2011, and they have now reached the last eight in each of the last four editions.
With top-10 ranked teams including the United States, Germany, Brazil and Canada all eliminated, the French will now fancy their chances of going all the way in the tournament.
Jamaica Exit
In the first round of 16 game on Tuesday, Colombia edged Jamaica 1-0 to reach the quarter-final for the first time.
