FC Masar of Egypt on Friday defeated Nigeria’s Edo Queens 4-3 via penalties to clinch the bronze medal at the third place playoff of the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Edo Queens Coach, Moses Aduku made three changes from the starting line up against TP Mazembe, as Blessing Illiveida, Mary Mamudu and Esther Inyang started to replace Comfort Folorunsho, Goodness Osigwe, and Chioma Moses.
The first half was a tight and competitive affair as both teams were unable to carve big chances for their attackers.
The second half resumed in the same fashion as FC Masar continued to defend resiliently while Edo Queens controlled the game.
The Nigerians threatened to break the deadlock from set pieces, however, they could not manage to win the ball aerially on various occasions.
They also attempted long throws to break the resolve of the Egyptians, however, the aerial prowess of the Masar defenders made them impenetrable.
The battle for third place went on a bit further as the game went into penalties.
