Latest FIFA ranking in April, 2025 has placed Morocco as the top-ranked African country.
The north African nation climbed two places from 14 to 12 spot.
According to FIFA, Nigeria, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Burkina Faso, South Africa are other notable national teams that moved upward.
Nigeria is now ranked 43rd from 44th but dropped one spot on the continental rankings.
Egypt are ranked in 32nd place, according to the latest global rankings released on Thursday.
The ranking displayed on FIFA official website, the Pharaohs climbed one spot from December 2024’s rankings after securing victories over Ethiopia and Sierra Leone in the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup in March.
Ghana made an upward movement in the latest ranking, from 77th to 76th.
The positive movement follows Ghana’s winning start to the 2025 calendar during the last international break.
Ghana defeated Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, recording their first wins since the victory over the Central African Republic in June.
The wins see Ghana move above Israel, who have dropped two places in the ranking.
While the signs are positive for Ghana in the global ranking, they remain unchanged in the continental ranking.
Cameroon, Mali, Guinea, Zambia, Uganda and Benin Republic dropped on the ranking led by Argentina.
Spain, France and England and Brazil complete the top five.
