A seven-man delegation of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) are currently in Nigeria to inspect various stadia as part of the process in the bid to cohost the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations with Benin Republic.
The team started their visitation with the inspection of the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Monday.
Later on, they moved to Benin on Tuesday, where they inspected the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium.
The CAF team arrived the 15,000 capacity stadium in the morning hours and were led on the facility tour by Mrs. Sabina Chikere, the permanent Secretary, Edo State Sports Commission.
Sabina Chikere who is also the General Coordinator of Bendel Insurance FC presented a souvenir with inscription: “Edo at a Glance” to the visiting team.
The Edo Sports Commission Permanent Secretary who described the CAF inspection visit as a welcome development said she was happy to be a part of the progress made by Governor Godwin Obaseki in sports infrastructure development which has attracted international competitions to Edo state.
Nigeria and Benin had submitted bid to cohost 2027 AFCON few months ago.
