Cameroon’s currency, CFA suffered a significant blow in the exchange market following Nigeria’s elimination from the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, The Guardian reports.
Nigeria’s AFCON journey ended in a disappointing manner after a Youssef Mskani second-half stunner beat goalkeeper Maduka Okoye on Sunday to hand the Eagles an early ouster from the competition.
The exchange rate of the Cameroun francs had been high, maintaining equal rate (one-to-one) with Nigeria’s naira, since the arrival of the Super Eagles and thousands of Nigerians, including supporters’ club members, football administrators and sports journalists to the country.
Aside the host country, Cameroun, there are more Nigerian journalists covering the AFCON than any other nation. Meanwhile, according to the Guardian, soon after the Super Eagles’ defeat by Tunisia on Sunday, the francs went down drastically.
