Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen has tested negative for coronavirus, the club confirmed Osimhen’s recovery on their Twitter handle on Sunday.
Osimhen was supposed to play in the Africa Cup of Nations with the Super Eagles of Nigeria wearing a protective mask, but was eventually not included in the team because of the virus.
And barely a week after, the club has now come out to confirm that Osimhen is ready to rejoin his teammates in Italy after testing negative.
“Victor is negative for COVID and will return to Italy in the coming hours,” the Partenopei wrote on Twitter.
His recovery comes just two days before Nigeria’s AFCON opener against Egypt.
The latest development adds to the drama that has engulfed the Super Eagles AFCON preparations, following the exclusion of key players Emmanuel Dennis and Odion Ighalo due to club-related issues.
Meanwhile, Napoli confirmed Osimhen will undergo medical examinations upon his return to Italy and could be available for Napoli’s upcoming Serie A games.
Napoli face Sampdoria today (Sunday) and their next two matches are against Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia on Thursday and Bologna on Monday January 17 in Serie A.
