Senegal progressed to the quarterfinal stage of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Cameroon after a 2-0 win over Cape Verde on Tuesday.
Sadio Mane and Bamba Dieng scored for the Teranga Lions to intensify their bid for a first-ever continental title.
Senegal took the lead in the 63rd minute when Sadio Mane latched onto a cross from Saliou Cisse to beat the goalkeeper.
Bamba Dieng added Senegal’s second in second-half injury time.
Cape Verde, in their second-ever appearance in the Africa Cup of Nations knockout stages, had Patrick Andrade shown a straight red card after 20 minutes, before goalkeeper Vozinha was also sent-off in the second-half after a heavy collision with Mane.
Senegal will be back in action on Sunday, in the quarter-finals. Equatorial Guinea or Mali will be their opponents.
