President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Akinwumi Adesina, has applauded the dream of King of Morocco, Mohammed VI for creating what he called a world class standard university unique for working on challenges facing the African Continent.
He said the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, a private research university signposts the creation of the future Africa is talking about.
“When I think of quality, when I think of innovative space, when I think of partnership, when I think of working on turbulence that are unique for Africa for a world class standard, this is clearly the best university that I have seen.
“Therefore I am certainly impressed. I certainly wish the university all the very best. It gives me confidence as the President of African Development Bank that the future we are talking about is actually being created right here with a world class institution and open learning platform like this” he said in a video posted on the bank’s social media page on Monday.
He said the university opens up the space to expose Moroccans and Africans generally to new learning environment.
The AfDB chief emphasised that the uniqueness of the university is defined in its innovativeness, creativity, and ability to release the power of the mind.
Adesina said the innovation which the university deploys in agricultural research enables the reduction of breeding in plant with phenotypic characteristics from four years to one year.
Same he said, applies in Computer science which enables students that never had knowledge of computer to engage in coding in a peer learning environment.
This he says, will enable students become employed and job creators as well.
He therefore applauded the university for granting scholarships to about 60 percent of the students and for not making affordability be a challenge for those interested in learning.
He called on other African countries to replicate what Mohammed VI Polytechnic University is doing in their various countries to actualise the dream of growth and innovation of Africa.
