The second leg match of the maiden African Football League (AFN) between Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco and Nigeria’s representative Enyimba FC has now been moved to Thursday, October 26, 2023, in Casablanca.
This was disclosed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in a statement.
The first leg tie played inside the Godswill Akpabio International stadium in Uyo ended 1-0 in favour of Wydad.
The news will now come as a huge respite to the management of Nigerian league champions Enyimba FC, who had their chartered flight abruptly cancelled after it was reportedly denied landing permits by the Moroccan authorities.
According to the AFL, the times for the Wydad vs Enyimba and Esperance vs TP Mazembe matches will remain the same as initially scheduled.
Al Ahly, Sundowns Through
Meanwhile, Egyptian giants Al Ahly have booked their place in the semi-final stage after a 1-1 home draw with Simba SC saw them through on away goals.
The first leg had finished 2-2 in Tanzania, but Al Ahly’s vital away strikes ultimately proved the difference across the two legs.
Also, South African side Mamelodi Sundowns held firm to seal their last four spot in the inaugural league despite being reduced to ten men in the opening minutes of their 0-0 draw with Petro Atletico.
A goalless stalemate ensured the South Africans progressed to the last four 2-0 on aggregate.
Sundowns will now play fellow semi-finalists Al Ahly over two legs for a place in the final.
