FIFA has now settled for the 2030 and 2034 World Cup hosts.
While Morocco, Portugal and Spain will jointly host the 2030 edition, Saudi Arabia won the bid for the 2034 edition.
The hosting arrangements now makes it evident that Africa will have an opportunity to host the World Cup again for the second time.
Africa, for the first time hosted the World Cup in 2010 in South Africa.
One critical aspect of the 2030 edition is that the organisers have approved that three matches will be held in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay to mark 100 years of the competition.
The hosts for both tournaments, and of the 2030 centenary celebrations, were conducted via two separate votes.
The first confirmed Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina as the centenary hosts.
The second confirmed the three hosts for 2030, as well as Saudi Arabia being awarded the 2034 tournament.
It will be the first 48-team World Cup to be played in one country, with the maiden newly expanded edition of the tournament being held in Canada, Mexico and the United States in 2026.
