Despite reaching their first ever semi-final stage of the Confederation Cup, Young Africans of Tanzania are now meant to pay for their actions against ousted Nigeria’s Rivers United.
Young Africans hosted Rivers United and eventually won 2-0 on aggregate, but the victory came with unlawful antics by the Tanzania side.
The Cruel Attack
Heritage Times HT reports that during the second leg quarter-final encounter between both clubs at Benjamin Mkapa stadium Dar es Salam, fans of Young Africans attacked the bus of Rivers United, sprayed chemical substance spray inside vehicle, with valuables stolen.
The same fans reportedly used lasers beams on the Nigerian players while the game was on.
CAF Fine, Young Africans Next Opponent
Following the incidents, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced a fine of $10,000 for the usage of lasers fireworks on the players of the Nigerian side.
Also, the continent’s football governing body fined Young Africans $25,000 for the bus incident against Rivers United.
In line with stipulated guidelines, the Tanzanian side has three days to appeal the judgment.
Young Africans are scheduled to tackle Marumo Gallants of South Africa in the semi-final of the competition.
Rivers Remaining Season Options
Rivers United, Nigeria Premier Football League defending Champions, have since returned to base and are engaging opponents, in search of another diadem.
However, the club owned by a state government in Nigeria has been knocked out of this year’s Federation Cup by CAF Champions League by two-time winners Enyimba in the round of 64.
