Following her exploits at the just concluded 2023 Diamond League competition, Nigeria’s sprint star, Tobi Amusan, will get up to $55, 000 as cash prize.
At the Diamond League, athletes often participate in a series of meetings before the event’s final, which is held within two days.
And Amusan, having participated in three series of the Diamond League meetings, in Stockholm (Sweden), Silesia (Poland), and in Eugene, Oregon, (USA); came first in two and was second in the very first one in Sweden.
With these, and despite the failure of the world champion to defend her title at the World Athletics Championships held last month in Budapest, capital of Hungary, Amusan is still the world record holder in the Women’s 100 meters Hurdles event, and her time of 12:12 Seconds set last year in Eugene (2022), subsists and was rarely challenged throughout the out-gone season.
Winning the 2022 final in Eugene was Amusan’s third consecutive victory at the Diamond League final showdown.
Before the World Championship, Amusan had faced difficulties arising from her not showing up for whereabouts protocols.
It was only about three days to this year’s Championship that the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) cleared her to participate, leading to her finishing sixth in the final.
However, the same AIU has appealed the decision to clear her of those issues same day she won Diamond League few days ago.
