A Nigerian sprinter Dubem Amene has quit Athletics, day after the 2024 Olympics which held in Paris, France ended.
Amene who is only 21 years old was among the quartet who featured in the 4x400m at the Games.
The relay group reached the final of the event after placing second in the semi-final but was later disqualified.
Before the Olympics, Dubem, an African and National champion, had represented Nigeria on the world stage.
Amene, who was born in America but switched allegiance to Nigeria at 18, achieved remarkable success in his short career.
Amene, alongside Nathaniel, Patience George, and Imaobong Nse Uko finished sixth in the mixed relay at the 2022 World Championships in Oregon, and he is a two-time African Championships finalist.
The University of Michigan graduate, who holds a degree in Economics, has secured a lucrative job with one of America’s Fortune 500 companies, prompting his decision to retire from athletics.
In the future, Amene might decide to renew his Athletics vigour and pitch tent with another country just as other Nigerians who went all the way to switch nationalities.
In Paris, these Nigerians numbering almost 10, eventually won medals of different colours for their chosen nations of the world.
