For the second consecutive season, Paris Saint-Germain have been sent out of UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie.
The latest defeat also came from Bayern Munich, the German serial champions that beat PSG, made up of World Football stars; including Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, among others 3-0 on aggregate on Wednesday night.
While the first leg at Paris ended 1-0 in favour of the German side, the French club giant plunged further in a 0-2 defeat in the hands of Bayern.
In the return leg encounter, the French side had a golden opportunity to level the tie in the first half, rather, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting doubled the hosts’ aggregate advantage in the 61st minute.
It was Marco Verratti’s turnover in his own box this time that created the chance, and Bayern made sure to punish their opponents.
Serge Gnabry, sealed the win with his goal in the 89th minute, finishing off a blistering counter-attack to guarantee Bayern advance a place in last eight for the fourth straight season.
PSG have now been eliminated from the competition at this stage in five of their previous seven campaigns and this represented another dismal failure for the Ligue 1 leaders and their under-pressure Head Coach, Christophe Galtier.
The draw for the last eight of the competition is expected to happen on March 17, 2023 in Nyon, Switzerland.
