About two years after, Nigeria’s Super Eagles Star, Kelechi Iheanacho, has been shortlisted in the February Premier League Player of the month.
The forward’s nomination followed his impressive performance for Leicester City Foxes within the month.
He enjoyed similar nomination in March 2021, which he won afterwards.
In Nigeria, only Jay Jay Okocha, Osaze Odemwingie, Odion Ighalo and Iheanacho are the only Nigerian players to have won the award.
Odemwingie, is the only Nigerian to have claimed the award more than one time. He won the award thrice in September 2010, April 2011 and February 2012.
In the latest nomination, the Nigerian player will hope to gain more points than in-form Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, Fulham goalkeeper, Bernd Leno, Tottenham Hotspur defender, Emerson Royal, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Fulham’s Israeli midfielder, Manor Solomon, who are also shortlisted.
Iheanacho’s performance was instrumental for his club’s victory in two, out of four league games played throughout February 2023.
The Nigerian international had five goals contribution within the month for the Foxes. He scored two goals and provided three assists.
United’s Marcus Rashford had been in superb form in February, scoring five goals in the month including, a brace against Iheanacho’s Leicester in a 3-0 win.
Fulham’s Solomon will also be a huge competition having scored three goals in four appearances for the Cottagers in February.
He’s been on target for the London club in their last three consecutive games.
