Famous American TV talk show host, Jerry Springer, has died at the age of 79.
Springer was known for his raucous and often controversial shows.
He hosted The Jerry Springer Show for almost thirty years, beginning in 1991.
According to his family, he passed away peacefully in his Chicago home on Thursday, as confirmed by his publicists.
In a statement released by Jene Galvin, a friend of Springer and representative for the family, he was described as “irreplaceable”. Springer’s larger-than-life persona and unique brand of entertainment made him a household name, and his influence on the talk show genre will not be forgotten.
“Jerry’s ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried whether that was politics, broadcasting, or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word,” he said.
“He’s irreplaceable and his loss hurts immensely, but memories of his intellect, heart, and humour will live on.”
