Spanish women football club UD Granadilla Tenerife have confirmed the capture of Nigerian international Gift Monday on a two-year deal.
The Super Falcons striker joins the Spanish side from Lagos outfit, Robo Queens, where she has been since 2017 on a permanent deal before completing her first professsional move to the Europe.
Gift put pen to paper on the deal until June 2024 and is expected to join her new teammates after her national duties with Nigeria against United States this week.
The Nigerian had been long sought after by UD Granadilla Tenerife since January 2021 and they eventually succeeded in snapping the 21-year-old, the third Nigerian on their books after Roosa Ariyo and Rinsola Babajide in 2021.
On her curriculum vitae, Monday launched her journey in the domestic league with defunt COD United before teaming up with Robo Queens.
She had brief stints with Rivers Angels and Bayelsa Queens, where she won the 2021/22 Nigerian Women’s Premier League, as well as top scorer gong with 12 goals.
At international level, she captained Nigeria to African Games glory for the first time in 12 years, scoring the first goal of the tournament before her senior debut in September 2019.
Monday shone at her maiden Africa Women’s Cup of Nations where Nigeria booked a ticket to the 2022 Women’s World Cup.
She is well known for her fine dribbling abilities and power on the ball and will unite with fellow African duo of Cameroon’s Raissa Feudjio, Cote d’Ivoire’s Ange Koko N’Guesan ahead of the new season.
Gift will now join fellow FC Robo brought-ups including Asisat Oshoala who currently plays for FC Barcelona and Rasheedat Ajibade now playing for Atletico Madrid in Spain.
Esther Sunday is another prominent FC Robo product who presently plies her trade in Belarus.
