There is currently an uneasy calm in the Barrancas area of Colombia’s Caribbean region following the kidnap of Luis Diaz’s parents.
Luis is a professional footballer who plies his trade with Liverpool, a top club in the Premier League.
However, report revealed that the Reds’ star’s mother, Cilenis Marulanda, has been rescued after a police chase, but his father is still believed to be held captive by ‘armed men’.
Already, Colombian President Gustavo Petro has confirmed that Diaz’s mother, Cilenis Marulanda, is accounted for and safe, according to Reuters.
A mounted security camera had captions which shows the vehicle Diaz’s parents were driving in and a motorcyclist riding behind them just before the kidnapping.
Reacting via a statement, the Colombian Football Federation said, “The Federation regrets the security situation that the parents of our player Luis Diaz are going through. From the FCF we express our solidarity with him and his entire family and we call for the relevant authorities to act as quickly as possible to resolve the situation.”
Also, Liverpool released a statement that reads, “Liverpool Football Club can confirm it is aware of an ongoing situation involving the family of Luis Diaz in Colombia.”
