After FIFA stripped Indonesia the hosting right of upcoming 2023 U20 World Cup, Argentina have entered bid to fill the vacant space.
The South American country, which won 2022 World Cup in December, submitted a formal bid to host the global tournament on Thursday.
So, Argentina was the only country to submit a formal offer. The FIFA Bureau will decide whether to accept the proposal in two or three days, with the tournament scheduled to start on May 20.
One of the best ever footballers (living or dead) Lionel Messi, hails from Argentina. He currently plays professional Football with PSG in France.
FiFA had stopped Indonesia from going on to host, after after the country’s soccer Federation (PSSI) said it had cancelled the draw because the governor of the island of Bali refused to host the Israel team.
With the latest development, Israel have given nod for Argentina to go ahead and host the competition.
“Israel is in favour of Argentina hosting, they deserve it as world champions. It is a very nice and big country, with excellent facilities. I hope they can also organize the 2030 World Cup,” Israel’s Ambassador to Argentina, Eyal Sela, said.
