Arsenal ended a win-less run of ten matches after they stunned London rivals Chelsea 3 – 1 on Saturday to go five points clear of the relegation zone.
The match which could have been a decider of Mikel Arteta’s fate, soon became a lifeline that saved the Spaniard’s job at the Emirates stadium.
Swiss man Granit Xhaka endeared himself back to the fans after he scored an exquisite free-kick to double Arsenal’s lead 10 minutes after Lacazette converted a spot-kick in the first-half.
Xhaka had played no part in the games against Southampton and Everton as well as the Carabao Cup defeat against Manchester City through suspension after being sent-off in the 1-0 defeat against Burnley a couple of weeks ago.
Xhaka was shown a red card when it was spotted that he had grabbed Ashley Westwood by the neck. However, the midfielder’s latest outing at the Emirates Stadium is one the fans won’t forget in a hurry.
Saka produced a moment of brilliance when the he chipped in the ball past blues goalkeeper Edouard Mendy to make it 3 before compatriot Tammy Abraham struck five minutes to stoppage time to reduce the goal deficit to two.
Despite staging an emphatic victory over Chelsea on boxing day, Mikel Arteta’s men still maintains their 14th spot on the log and will hope to continue in a similar fashion in the coming games next year.
