After a double monstrous effort against USA and Argentina, D’Tigers suffered a heavy defeat to an understrength Australian team in their final pre-Olympic game on Wednesday morning.
Mike Brown’s side were beaten by a massive 39 points as Australian Boomers with an average age of 25, triumphed 108-69.
The Aussies had dominated the encounter as D’Tigers fell in the first quarter by 26-13 and they continued their dominance in the second quarter ending with a comfortable 49-29.
Brian Goorjian’s men opened a 38-point lead to end the quarter 84-46, then clocking the 100-point mark to win by 39 points ending the game 108-69.
The duo of Josh Okogie and Obi Emegano were on the score sheet for D’Tigers with 10 points a piece, while Jahlil Okafor had seven with five rebounds and Ike Iroegbu also scored seven points.
The Third ranked nation will be making their 15th appearance at the Olympics, having been drawn in the same group as Nigeria, who will hope to avenge the defeat.
Nigeria have had an impressive run during the exhibition series beating powerhouses USA and Argentina before falling short against Australia.
Meanwhile, before the commencement of the game against Australia, the Nigerian team paid tribute to late Sound Sultan who passed away on Sunday – as they filed out with their warm up shirts bearing Sultan’s picture.
