An Australian sailor and his dog were rescued after spending two months adrift at sea in a remarkable tale of survival.
Tim Shaddock, 51, and his dog Bella were found off the coast of Mexico after their boat was damaged in a storm.
They survived by eating raw fish and drinking rainwater.
Shaddock told reporters that he was “in very good health” after the rescue.
He said he was “just needing rest and good food” after being alone at sea for so long.
Ocean survival expert Professor Mike Tipton said Shaddock’s rescue was “remarkable”.
According to Tipton, the chances of being found in the vast Pacific Ocean are “pretty slim”, so Shaddock’s survival was “a combination of luck and skill”.
Tipton also credited Bella with helping Shaddock through the ordeal.
He said having a companion can make a “tremendous amount of difference” in a survival situation.
Shaddock and Bella are currently en route to Mexico, where Shaddock will undergo medical tests.
