Nigeria’s Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has won the Player of the Month and Goal of the Month Awards for August at Nottingham Forest.
This followed his spectacular performance since the new English Premier League begun, despite struggling with fitness.
The 26-year-old striker started the season on the bench in his club’s season opener against Arsenal, and scored the solitary goal for his club in the 2-1 loss at the Emirates stadium.
He then followed up with another strike against Sheffield United in their 2-1 victory.
He also scored against Manchester United, but it was not enough as they lost 3-2.
His goal against the Red Devils also ensured he won the Goal of the Month.
Awoniyi had a superb finish to the 2022/23 season, scoring six goals in his last four games for Nottingham to help them survive relegation.
Awoniyi carried his rich form into the FIFA international break window, scoring for Super Eagles in their 6-0 victory over Sao Tome and Principe on Sunday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state capital.
Nottingham Forest play Burnley in their first game after the international friendly next Monday, and Awoniyi would look to continue with his great form against the Clarets.
