Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun is set to sign a new deal at Scottish club Glasgow Rangers before the end of the season.
The Nigeria international, who signed for Rangers on a one-year deal after leaving Wigan Athletic last year, earned the new contract after playing enough games to trigger a contract extension.
According to SunSport, Balogun needed to make 23 starts to extend his stay with the Gers for another season.
The versatile defender reached the mark in Rangers’ Europa League clash against Slavia Prague of Czech Republic and will now automatically be handed a new one-year contract.
This season, the 32-year-old along with his compatriot Joe Aribo helped the Gers to their first Scottish title in 10 years with fewer games to spare.
Balogun featured in Nigeria’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Benin and Lesotho.
So far, the AFCON bronze medalist have been capped 36 times by Nigeria since making his debut appearance in a 2-2 friendly draw against Mexico in 2014.
