Major Christopher Datong, a Nigerian Army Officer abducted on Tuesday by bandits at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Afaka in Kaduna State, has been murdered.
According to reports, his body was found on Tuesday evening, hours after he was captured by bandits who reportedly demanded N200 million to set him free.
Datong, born January 4, 1978 hails from from Pankshin in Plateau State.
One of the photographs circulating in the social media showed the officer with his pregnant wife.
Shock and concerns greeted the security breach of the NDA, with Nigerians wondering if any one is really safe if bandits could operate so freely inside an elite military institution.
Two officers were feared killed during the attack while Datong was abducted.
Reacting to the incident, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor declared that the Nigeria Army is not ruling out an inside collaborator in the attack on the NDA.
The CDS said the incident was worrisome and the military is looking into it with keen interest, adding that the attack was like robbers entering a house with the knowledge of an insider.
