Despite failing to book a place in the upcoming 2023 FIBA World Cup, Nigeria’s D’Tigers have remained number one men basketball team in Africa, according to latest ranking released on Tuesday March 7, 2023.
Nigeria failed to pick a World Cup ticket in the just concluded last round of qualifier after Cape Verde emerged surprised entrants.
During the qualifying series which ended few days ago, Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country won two out of three matches.
Yet, the latest ranking placed D’Tigers as the top-playing basketball country in the continent and 19th in the World with 461.4 points.
Tunisia is placed second in the continent with 448.6 points, Senegal is in third position and Angola in fourth position.
The remaining top 10 nations are Ivory Coast, Egypt, South Sudan, Cape Verde, Cameroon and Dr Congo in the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th positions respectively.
