As US. President-elect Joe Biden takes over the saddle on January 20, he has assured of reversing a variety of executive orders ratified by predecessor Donald Trump.
A memo issued by incoming White House chief of staff Ron Klain revealed that the travel ban on nationals of many predominantly Muslim countries tops the list of Prominent among dozens of regulations to be repealed on Mr. Biden’s first day at the Oval Office.
“President-elect Biden will take action — not just to reverse the gravest damages of the Trump administration — but also to start moving our country forward,” the correspondence by Mr. Biden’s top aide stated per CNN.
It would be recalled that immigrants from Chad, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen – most of which are majority Muslim were barred from entering the United States during the early days of President Trump’s administration.
Citing security concerns, Mr. Trump included Nigeria, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Sudan and Tanzania to the list early 2020.
With the President’s failure to secure re-election at the hotly contested November 3 presidential polls, Nigeria and its global counterparts which have been on the receiving end of the rigidity of the outgoing U.S. leader can heave a sigh of relief.
President Muhammadu Buhari and a few other world leaders had swiftly congratulated Mr. Biden long before his victory was firmly certified by authorities.
The Biden presidency is largely expected to improve bilateral relations across the board.
