Victor Osimhen has been ruled out of Napoli’s trip to Salernitana on Sunday due to a muscle strain.
The Super Eagles striker has been a consistent performer in the Italian top-flight this season and his medical condition might come as a worry for Luciano Spalletti.
His attacking contributions have helped Napoli maintain a 10-game unbeaten run in the league which puts them on top of the table with 28 points.
“Osimhen left the field prematurely with a muscle strain in his right gastrocnemius. Victor will not leave for the trip to Salerno,” read a statement on the club’s website.
Osimhen has started each of Napoli’s last eight league matches and has scored five goals so far in this campaign.
The lanky striker made a major impact in Napoli’s 3-0 win over Bologna at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Thursday, despite missing out on the scoresheet.
The Nigerian international was involved in two penalties won by Napoli which were converted by Lorenzo Insigne in each half of the encounter.
However, it remains to be seen if the former Lille talisman will be fit in time for Nigeria’s 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Liberia and Cape Verde on November 13 and 16 respectively.
So far, the 22-year-old has two goals to his name in his last three World Cup qualifying matches for the Super Eagles.
