Routine roadblock conducted by members of Botswana police has led to the discovery of illegal immigrants who were heading to South Africa.
Botswana is known to have one of the most toughest laws when it comes to immigration issues.
Local media reports suggest that the truck was loaded with at least 40 illegal immigrants who were all coming from Ethiopia.
They were firmly stashed in a truck that was heading to South Africa and they are believed to have arrived in Botswana through Zimbabwe.
Senior Superintendent Kabo Badirwang, commanding district officer said the truck carrying the Ethiopian men has been stopped and inquiries into how the men got from Ethiopia to Botswana are still ongoing.
The truck is believed to have been stopped at a roadblock in an area known as Nata, which is in the rural areas.
Police stopped the truck and upon searching it, they discovered that it was transporting humans.
On being quizzed about their travelling documents, none of them were able to show their documents.
This comes just a week after 67 illegal Pakistani foreigners were intercepted at OR Tambo International Airport after failing immigration tests during a sting operation.
However, Home Affair’s minister Aaron Motsoaledi has stated that all 67 would be sent back to their home country.
South African border officials have in the past been accused of not being strick enough in restricting visitors who do not comply with immigration requirements.
