Nigerian contingent comprising five females and a male have arrived at the Thai capital Bangkok to take part in the second and final Olympic Games Boxing qualifiers.
According to the organisers, the World qualification tournament is scheduled for May 24 to June 3, 2024, with about 600 boxers from various countries in attendance.
Heritage Times HT gathered the Nigerian female boxers will be fighting for a place in Paris in the 50, 57, 70 and 75 class, while the only male in the contingent will battle for podium win in the plus 92 kg category.
The tournament will be the third and final chance for most boxers to earn a quota for the Olympics Games after the continental qualification tournaments and the 1st World Qualification Tournament in Busto Arsizio, Italy.
Up to 51 remaining Paris 2024 Olympic spots, 23 for women and 28 for men will be up for grabs across 13 weight categories, 6 for women and 7 for men in the qualifiers.
In total, 188 quota have already been obtained by 56 National Olympic Committees and the Refugee Olympic Team.
Australia leads the way with 12 quotas, but no nation has acquired the maximum amount of athlete quotas available in boxing.
