#EndSARS promoter Eromosele Adene has been granted bail by a magistrate court sitting in Lagos.
Announcing the development on Twitter, Nigerian human rights activist Omoyele Sowore wrote: “Eromosele Adene @simplyEromz granted bail as the @OfficialAPCNg leaning Magistrate couldn’t appear, a new Magistrate just granted bail. The Heritage Times had earlier reported how the 27-year-old ailing activist was arrested on the 7th of November by dozens of policemen over his alleged connection to a planned protest in Lagos.
Eromosele’s arrest was not unconnected to calls for the continuation of nationwide protests against police brutality that kicked off in early October and culminated in the deadly attack by soldiers on peaceful protesters in the Lekki area of Lagos on October 20.
He was arraigned by police authorities before the Yaba Magistrates Court in Lagos on Monday – without the consent of his lawyer – by the police who applied for a remand order to detain him for an extra 30 days.
The police told Magistrate, O.A Salau, that the defendant was being investigated for criminal incitement, cyberstalking, provoking breach of public peace, and conduct likely to cause the breach of peace.
Authorities also told the court that Eremosele was arrested at the scene of a demonstration even though eye witness accounts and video evidence proved he was arrested in his home.
The remand request also claimed the activist made a confessional statement after being arrested with exhibits
With his bail, Eromosele can now tend to his health as he is reportedly suffering from liver complications and immune system disorder.
