Atlectico Madrid have been crowned La Liga champions for the 11th time in the club’s history and their first title since the 2013/14 season.
Luiz Suarez was the hero on the evening as he netted what proved to be the winner in a 2-1 comeback away win against Valladolid on Saturday.
While Real Madrid who had chased the Roji Blancos down to the final day fought from a goal down to secure a 2-1 over Villareal but the come back win was not enough as Atletico were expected to either lose or draw to clinch the title.
Valladolid had taken the lead against Atletico on 18 minutes while Real Madrid went behind in the 20th minute thanks to Yeremi Pino goal for Villarreal.
Atletico then turned things around following goals from Angel Correa and Suarez in the 57th and 67th minutes respectively.
Real Madrid also got back in the mix as Karim Benzema equalised in the 87th minute before Luka Modric grabbed the winner in the 90th minute. But, Diego Simeone’s men held on to their lead to emerge champions.
