Chelsea has parted ways with embattled gaffer Frank Lampard after a season and a half in charge of the west London outfit.
The 42-year-old was brought in from championship club Derby County to succeed Italian manager Maurizio Sarri in the summer 2019/20 season.
His first season at Stamford Bridge saw the Englishman lose two cup finals against Liverpool in the European Super Cup and the FA Cup against a frail Arsenal side.
Although, Lampard still pulled a string of fine performance from his short spell after he qualified the Blues for the Champions League by finishing fourth in the Premier League.
Despite keeping an hundred percent record in the UEFA Champions League – six games unbeaten, the ex England international will have to turn a new lease of life elsewhere after seeing his side defeat Luton Town 3 – 1 in an FA Cup fourth round tie and his last game in charge of Chelsea.
Lampard came under severe criticism this season following his team lacklustre showing despite breaking the bank to court the services of Timo Werner, Ben Chillwel, Kai Havertz, Edouard Mendy and Hakim Ziyech, – all costing a whooping £220m.
Chelsea currently occupy the eighth position on the League table, having won just one game in their last eight Premier League fixtures.
Frank Lampard’s sack now puts him in the long list of managerial casualty under the rein of billionaire owner Roman Abrahamovich.
The Russian billionaire in the wake of Lampard’s dismissal said: “This was a very difficult decision for the club, not least because I have an excellent personal relationship with Frank. However, under current circumstances we believe it is best to change managers.”
Former PSG boss, Thomas Tuchel, who was also sacked by the Ligue 1 champions last December, could be in line for the job as reports have emerged that the German tactician is set to agree a four-year-deal with the London club.
