According to a government source, Britain and the European Union have agreed on the post-Brexit trading arrangements in Northern Ireland.
After meeting with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, on Monday, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is anticipated to announce the agreement. At 1530 GMT, a news conference with the two is anticipated.
The agreement aims to ease tensions brought on by the 2020 post-Brexit rules governing the British region of Northern Ireland and its open border with Ireland, a member of the EU.
Yet, it is still being determined if it will go far enough to break the political impasse in Northern Ireland and appease opponents in both Britain and the province.
The new deal is anticipated to reduce physical inspections of products from Britain to Northern Ireland and grant the British province control over the EU regulations it must adhere to following the complex conditions of Britain’s exit from the EU.
Additionally, it might give London the power to enact state assistance and tax laws.
