British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has congratulated Bola Tinubu for his victory at the just concluded presidential election in Nigeria.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, had announced Tinubu as the winner of the keenly contested polls in the early hours of Wednesday.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate won the election in Nigeria, defeating Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party, and the candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Following Tinubu, who received 8,794,726 votes, were Atiku (6,984,520), Obi (6,101,533), and Kwankwaso (1,496,687).
In a tweet on Wednesday, the UK prime minister expressed his desire to collaborate with him, stressing that the UK and Nigeria have a solid connection.
“The ties between the UK and Nigeria are still strong. I’m excited to collaborate with you to strengthen our security and trade relations, expand economic prospects, and bring prosperity to our nations.”
In the meantime, Tinubu has urged people who opposed his candidature to work with him in a joint effort to save the country.
“As I hold this certificate, this is a moment of celebration and joy for us,” Tinubu stated while he recieved his certificate of return.
“It has been a long journey. But we took the path. The conflict has been fiercely waged. But we prevailed.
“But more significantly, I know I am merely a tool for the greater good. This is more than just a record attesting to an election’s success. This certificate represents the supreme ability of each of you to accomplish what others think is impossible for you to achieve,” he said.
